Benefits of AFM Membership
| |
| |
The AFM is essentially the only union
of professional musicians in the US and Canada. AFM membership
puts you on the same team with the top professionals
in every area of the music business. |
| |
| |
AFM musicians who travel are protected
through the "Road Gig" program with free legal
services and other support from the union while on the road. |
| |
| |
Minimum wage scales and working conditions
established by the AFM and its Locals enable members to remain
competitive with each other without limiting how high their
earnings can be. These established rates are also designed
to prevent employers from taking unfair advantage of musicians. |
| |
| |
AFM members receive the monthly International
Musician, a publication filled with all kinds of useful information
relative to the field of music including "help wanted" and
audition notices. |
| |
| |
AFM musicians are served by national
AFM offices on the East Coast, West Coast and in Canada
as well as by Local offices throughout both countries. |
| |
| |
Member benefits for AFM musicians include
special rates on instrument and equipment insurance. Favorable
rates are also available on insurance covering life, hospitalization,
accident and eye wear. |
| |
| |
Advice and assistance is available to
traveling members via a 24-hour, toll-free WATS line. |
| |
| |
AFM members are eligible to receive
local jobs which are sponsored through the Music Performance
Trust Funds (MPTF) and funded through contributions from
the recording industry and other co-sponsors. This unique
program provides work for union musicians and makes musical
programs available in cities across the country that are
free and open to the public.
